Restoring dignity through health
Jigger Treatment & Health Outreach
Overview
Tungiasis (jigger flea infestation) is a painful and stigmatising neglected tropical disease that disproportionately affects children and the elderly in rural Kenya. Our Jigger Treatment Program addresses this through a comprehensive approach: mobile outreach camps that provide safe extraction and treatment, distribution of shoes and socks to prevent reinfection, and hygiene education that tackles the root environmental causes.
What We Provide
- Mobile treatment camps in remote communities
- Safe jigger extraction and wound care
- Distribution of protective shoes and socks
- Hygiene and sanitation education workshops
- Follow-up home visits to prevent reinfection
- Referral pathways for secondary infections
Our Impact
Over 3,200 individuals treated across 18 outreach camps, with reinfection rates reduced by 65% in communities receiving follow-up care.
